#ICPConcerned

I was humbled to have been chosen to be part of the International Center of Photography’s #ICPConcerned exhibition, which presents a selection of photographs collected from the #ICPConcerned hashtag on Instagram. The images present responses to events worldwide, from the COVID-19 pandemic to Black Lives Matter protests and to the US election in November. The exhibition will continue to grow alongside the Instagram archive, eventually encompassing 1,000 images.

My image was made in early April 2020 not far from my apartment when the very air in NYC seemed infected, ambulances careened by at all hours of the day, and my wife and I struggled to know how to deal with rising work requirements, two young children at home, and angst and anxiety coloring our every decision.

Night Photography

I was part of a group show of night photographs taken by artists from around the world at the Athens, Greece-based Blank Wall Gallery. My image was entitled ‘Paradise Lost,’ taken in Maui, Hawaii a few years before the fires that destroyed Lahaina, which is in the distance. Paradise Lost refers as well to the impact of the modern tourist industry and to the taking of the image itself, with the circumstances of my being there deeply personal.

Metro Texture III

I was honored to have three photographs chosen for the Metro Texture III group street photography show organized by Liam Cotter Photography at the Con Artist Gallery that once reared its head in the Lower East Side. The images speak to an eternal beauty that can be found in NYC amidst the ‘exhilarating hassle’ that the city so often prescribes (thanks Max Kozloff).
